Terminator

AKA: terminator, Rho-independent termination site
A sequence in DNA that signals termination of transcription to RNA polymerase. This should not be confused with terminator codons that are the stopping signal for translation.

Terminator
A DNA sequence that results in termination of transcription. See Transcription terminator.
Terminus
The region of DNA sequences where DNA replication terminates.

terminator
A special sequence of nucleotides in DNA that marks the end of a gene; it signals RNA polymerase to release the newly made RNA molecule, which then departs from the gene.

Terminator
The site on a DNA sequence at which transcription and DNA replication stops. Cf. origin.

Terminators are codes that indicate the end of a genetic message (gene).
An initiator codon (usually AUG) indicates where the genetic information begins.

Terminator region. A DNA sequence that signals the end of transcription.
Tetracycline. An antibiotic that interferes with protein synthesis in prokaryotes.

Terminator: A sequence downstream from the 3' end of an open reading frame that serves to halt transcription by the RNA polymerase. In bacteria these are commonly sequences that are palindromic and thus capable of forming hairpins.

"Terminator" Genes
This term is used (by opponents of the practice) for transgenes introduced into crop plants to make them produce sterile seeds (and thus force the farmer to buy fresh seeds for the following season rather than saving seeds from ...

Automated, direct cycle sequencing of purified double-stranded PCR products using Taq polymerase and fluorescently-labeled dideoxynucleotide terminators provides a robust and highly reproducible method to identify DNA sequence variations in ...

Intrinsic termination (also called Rho-independent termination) involves terminator sequences within the RNA as it is being made that signal the RNA polymerase to stop.

Transcription terminator A short base sequence found at the 3' end of a gene which causes the RNA polymerase to stop transcription.
Transfection A general term to describe the introduction of recombinant or vector DNA into host cells.

Because the transcription starts from a specific base-pair sequence (a promoter) and stops at another (a terminator), our DNA strand needs to be correctly placed between the two. If not, it is considered as junk DNA, and is not expressed.

gene regulation differs from eukaryotic regulation, but since prokaryotes are much easier to work with, we focus on prokaryotes at this point. Promoters are sequences of DNA that are the start signals for the transcription of mRNA. Terminators are ...
