The walls of the seminiferous tubules consist of diploid spermatogonia, stem cells that are the precursors of sperm.
Spermatogonia
divide by mitosis to produce more spermatogonia or
differentiate into spermatocytes.

Spermatozoa are produced in seminiferous tubules in the testes. They start off as spermatogonia , undergoing mitosis becoming a type A spermatogonium or a type B spermatogonium. Type B spermatogonia become primary spermatocytes.
