Resting potential

Resting potential
Main article: Resting potential
The potential difference that exists across the membrane of all cells is usually negative inside the cell with respect to the outside. The membrane is said to be polarized.

resting potential: the inactive state of a neuron in which the cytoplasm is negatively charged with respect to the outside of the cell.
Full article >>>

resting potential The difference in electrical charge across the plasma membrane of a neuron.

resting potential
The membrane potential characteristic of a nonconducting, excitable cell, with the inside of the cell more negative than the outside.
restriction enzyme ...
Full article >>>

resting potential The unequal distribution of charges on either side of a neuron membrane that is not undergoing an action potential.
restoration ecology Seeks to repair or reconstruct ecosystems damaged by human actions.

The Resting Potential
All cells (not just excitable cells) have a resting potential: an electrical charge across the plasma membrane, with the interior of the cell negative with respect to the exterior.
Full article >>>

With respect to the broad range of interesting potential target organisms, the DOE role can be comprehensive for some and enabling for many others.
Full article >>>

This threshold potential varies but generally is about 15 millivolts above the resting potential of the cell.
Full article >>>

The potassium channels remain open until the membrane potential becomes at least as negative as the resting potential.
Full article >>>

An electrical states whereby the inside of the cell is made more negative relative to the outside than at the resting membrane potential. A neuron membrane is hyperpolarised if a stimulus increases its voltage from the resting potential of -70mV, ...
