Oxidizing and Reducing agents
Substances that have the ability to oxidize other substances are said to be oxidative and are known as oxidizing agents/oxidants or oxidizers. Put in another way, the oxidant removes electrons from the substance.

The NADPH is the main reducing agent in chloroplasts, providing a source of energetic electrons to other reactions. Its production leaves chlorophyll with a deficit of electrons (oxidized), which must be obtained from some other reducing agent.

The electromotive force exhibited at an electrode by 1 M concentrations of a reducing agent and its oxidized form at 25 oC and pH 7.0; a measure of the relative tendency of the reducing agent to lose electrons.
