Recombinase

The Flp recombinase belongs to one of two classes of proteins that catalyze inversions. Other members of the family catalyze phage DNA integration. The Int-Flp family includes lambda Int, Flp, and cre.

Recombinase
Isomerase; enzyme catalyses the processes of DNA recombination, used in recombinant DNA technology.
The process of site-specific DNA recombination is involved in viral integration, excision and chromosomal segregation.

Recombinase
An enzyme that catalyzes genetic recombination.
Recombination
Genetic exchange resulting from a cross-over between two different DNA molecules or different regions of a DNA molecule.

Recombinase: Enzymatic activity responsible for facilitating intra- or intermolecular recombination of DNA molecules.
Regulatory regions or sequences: A DNA base sequence that controls gene expression.
Relaxed DNA: See Supercoil.

It is based on the ability of Cre recombinase to delete regions bound by loxP sites (a 34-bp sequence) in vivo.

This might entail 'knocking in' recombinase sites (such as lox or frt sites) that will cause a deletion at the gene of interest when a specfic recombinase (such as CRE, FLP) is induced.

A gene encoding a recombinase — an enzyme that can remove the spacer in the toxin gene thus allowing to be expressed.
A repressor gene whose protein product binds to the promoter of the recombinase thus keeping it inactive.

Method for the introduction of genetic modifications into specific genes by homologous recombination using Cre a site-specific, bacteriophage P1-derived recombinase. The Cre recombinase cuts at the loxP-tagged genes.
