Reading frame
The sequence of nucleotides which is read as consecutive triplets during translation of mRNA into protein. A sequence of codons that continues without encountering a stop codon is called an open reading frame (ORF).

Reading frame: When mRNA is translated by the cell, the nucleotides are read three at a time. By starting at different positions, the groupings of three that are produced can be entirely different.

Phase or reading frame of a sequence
Note that a "codon" is entirely defined by your starting position. For example, the string GGGAAACCC, if read from the first position, contains the codons GGG, AAA and CCC.

ORF Open reading frame. A continuous sequence of nucleotide triplets (codons) in which each triplet codes for an amino acid.
Oligonucleotide A short nucleic acid molecule; normally refers to molecules between 5 and 200 nucleotide residues(bases) long.
