Primase

Primase
DNA polymerase cannot initiate a new strand, it can only elongate a strand that is already present. Synthesis of new DNA therefore cannot begin until a short strand of nucleotides is added. This short strand is called a primer.

Primase
An enzyme that synthesizes ribonucleotide primers for lagging strand DNA synthesis of Okazaki fragments. Polymerizes ribonucleotide triphosphates in the 5' to 3' direction.

Primase: An DNA-dependent RNA polymerase function that synthesizes a short RNA primer used during DNA replication by DNA polymerase. Primase does not require a primer, only a template.

The complex of T7 DNA polymerase and T7 helicase/primase synthesize DNA with high efficiency. We have been optimizing reactions carried out by these enzymes in combination with other T7 replication proteins.
Full article >>>

At the beginning of replication, an enzyme called DNA polymerase binds to the RNA primase, which indicates the starting point for the replication. DNA polymerase can only synthesize new DNA from the 5’ to 3’ (of the new DNA).

A complex of two proteins, a primase and a helicase, that initiates RNA primers on the lagging DNA strand during DNA replication.

primosome - unit formed on the lagging strand comprised of a primase molecule and helicase
promoter - nucleotide sequence in DNA to which RNA polymerase binds to begin transcription ...
Full article >>>

A short sequence (of RNA or DNA) from which DNA replication can initiate. May be either a synthetic DNA or RNA or a length of RNA synthesized in vivo by primase.
Full article >>>

primase An enzyme that synthesizes RNA oligonucleotides used as primers by DNA polymerases. primer A short oligomer (of sugars in glycogen or nucleotides in DNA) to which an enzyme adds additional monomeric subunits.
