Oxidation

Pyruvate Oxidation is the step which connects glycolysis to Krebs Cycle. It takes the two pryuvate molecules from glycolysis and transports them from the cytoplasm, through the two mitochondrial membranes into the matrix.

Oxidations and reductions always go together. They are called redox reactions.
When electrons flow "downhill" in a redox reaction, they release free energy.

Oxidation and Reduction Reactions
Oxidation is the loss of electrons or hydrogen atoms. Oxidation reactions release energy.
Reduction is gain of electrons or hydrogen atoms and is associated with a gain of energy.

Oxidation
Primary alcohols generally give aldehydes or carboxylic acids upon oxidation, while secondary alcohols give ketones. Tertiary alcohols resist oxidation.

oxidation The loss of an electron by an atom or molecule; sometimes addition of oxygen chemically to a substance. Opposite of reduction, in which an electron is accepted by an atom or molecule.

oxidation
A chemical process in which either electrons are lost from an atom, or oxygen is added to a molecule. Oxidation may also occur without the addition of oxygen if hydrogen is removed (dehydrogenation.) ...

pentose phosphate pathway A pathway involved in the oxidation of glucose and is a source of reducing equivalents (NADPH) and pentoses for biosynthetic processes; present in most organisms.

Upon oxidation, ammonia applied to croplands is mobilized and can leach into ground and surface waters. Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria also produce the greenhouse gases NO and N2O.

Cu2+ + 8Fe2+ + SO42- + 8H+ is a chemical reaction The resultant Cu2+ is recovered from the solution when it reacts with iron and the Fe2+, which enters the solution, is oxidized (again by A. ferrooxidans) to Fe3+. After oxidation this solution is ...
