micropyle
A small canal in the integument surrounding the ovule of a flowering plant, through which the pollen tube usually enters the ovule on the way to the embryo sac. Water enters the seed via the micropyle prior to germination.

The pollen tube enters the ovule through the micropyle and ruptures.
One sperm nucleus fuses with the egg forming the diploid zygote.
The other sperm nucleus fuses with the polar nuclei forming the endosperm nucleus.

chalazal Ovule end opposite the micropyle.
chalimus Specialized, parasitic copepodid, found in the copepod order Siphonostomatoida; attached to its host by an anterior "frontal filament" that is secreted by the frontal gland.

The pollen grain adheres to the stigma of the carpel (female reproductive structure) and grows a pollen tube that penetrates the ovum through a tiny pore called a micropyle. Two sperm cells are released into the ovary through this tube.
