Glucagon

glucagon A hormone released by the pancreas that stimulates the breakdown of glycogen and the release of glucose, thereby increasing blood levels of glucose. Glucagon and insulin work together to maintain blood sugar levels.

glucagon: a hormone produced in the pancreas that stimulates the breakdown of glycogen to glucose in the liver.
glucose: a carbohydrate with the chemical formula C6H12O6 that serves as the primary carbon source of living things.

glucagon
[Gk. glykys, sweet + ago, to lead toward]
A peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic endocrine cells that raises blood glucose levels; an antagonistic hormone to insulin.

Glucagon acts principally on the liver where it stimulates the conversion of
glycogen into glucose ("glycogenolysis") and
fat and protein into intermediate metabolites that are ultimately converted into glucose ("gluconeogenesis") ...

Moreover, the conversion (desaturation) of DGLA to AA is controlled by the enzyme delta-5-desaturase, which in turn is controlled by hormones such as insulin (up-regulation) and glucagon (down-regulation).

The pancreas produces insulin and glucagon to control blood-sugar concentration.
The lungs take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.
The kidneys remove urea, and adjust the concentrations of water and a wide variety of ions.

pancreas A gland located in the abdomen that produces both digestive enzymes (exocrine pancreas) and hormones (endocrine pancreas). Key hormones produced by the pancreas are insulin and glucagon, which play roles in regulating blood glucose levels.
