Gene flow

Gene flow (or gene admixture) is the only mechanism whereby populations can become closer genetically while building larger gene pools. Migration of one population into another area occupied by a second population can result in gene flow.

Gene flow (also called gene admixture or simply migration) is introduction of variation into a population from an outside population. It is the only mechanism whereby two populations can become closer genetically while increasing their variation.

Gene flow moves alleles among populations through interbreeding as well as by migration of breeding individuals. Gene flow increases variation within a population by introducing new alleles produced in another population.

gene flow
The loss or gain of alleles from a population due to the emigration or immigration of fertile individuals, or the transfer of gametes, between populations.

gene flow: a mechanism of evolution that results when individuals migrate from one group to another and contribute their genes to the gene pool of the new population.
gene linkage: the concept of transfer of a linkage group.

gene flow An exchange of genes between two populations of a species, or in extreme cases, between populations of two species (hybridization).

Gene Flow
Many species are made up of local populations whose members tend to breed within the group. Each local population can develop a gene pool distinct from that of other local populations.

Gene flow
Main article: Gene flow
Gene flow or gene admixture is the only one of the agents that makes populations closer genetically while building larger gene pools.
Full article >>>

Gene flow. The exchange of genes between different but (usually) related populations.
Gene frequency. The percentage of a given allele in a population of organisms. See Allele.
Full article >>>

Gene flow between more distantly related species occurs infrequently. This is called horizontal transfer. One interesting case of this involves genetic elements called P elements.
Full article >>>

Gene flow
: The movement of genes within a population or between two populations following genetic admixture. Gene flow creates new combinations of genes or alleles in individuals that can be tested against the environment.

(See Dominant gene, Fusion gene, Gene amplification, Gene expression, Gene flow, Gene pool, Gene splicing, Gene translocation, Recessive gene, Regulatory gene.) Gene amplification. The presence of multiple genes.

Gene flow: the transfer of genes (actually, alleles) from one population to another.

Parapatric speciation. The differentiation into distinct species of populations experiencing some gene flow
Parasite. An organism living on or in, and negatively affecting, another organism ...

people are really concerned about small populations, such as an endangered species, and how do you maintain those small populations-in particular, what are the genetic problems that you run into with small populations, like lack of gene flow and loss ...
