Autosome
An autosome is a non-sex chromosome. It is an ordinary paired chromosome that is the same in both sexes of a species. For example, in humans, there are 22 pairs of autosomes. The X and Y chromosomes are not autosomal.

Autosome
A term coined by Montgomery (1906) for the chromosome not involved in sex determination; a chromosome other than a sex chromosome.

Autosome A chromosome not involved in sex determination. The diploid human genome consists of a total of 46 chromosomes: 22 pairs of autosomes, and 1 pair of sex chromosomes (the X and Y chromosomes).

autosomes The chromosomes other than the sex chromosomes. Each member of an autosome pair (in diploid organisms) is of similar length and in the genes it carries.

autosome
(awtuh-some) [Gk. autos, self + soma, body]
A chromosome that is not directly involved in determining sex, as opposed to the sex chromosomes.

autosome Any chromosome that is not a sex chromosome.
autotomy The self amputation of an appendage. For example, the casting off of a section of a lizard's tail caught in the grasp of a predator. The autotomized appendage is usually regenerated.

5 pairs of autosomes and, usually,
2 X chromosomes.
These animals are hermaphrodites, producing both sperm and eggs.
Most of the time they fertilize themselves, so that any recessive alleles quickly become homozygous and affect the phenotype.

Autosome. A chromosome that is not involved in sex de- termination. B beta-DNA. The normal form of DNA found in biological systems, which exists as a right-handed helix. beta-Lactamase. Ampicillin resistance gene. (See Selectable marker.) Bacillus.

Autosome -- a nuclear chromosome other than the X- and Y-chromosomes. Autoradiograph -- a photographic picture showing the position of radioactive substances in tissues. Bacteriophage -- a virus whose host is a bacterium; commonly called phage.

"Sxl is activated in females where the X chromosome to autosome (X:A) ratio is 1. It remains ‘off' in males where the X:A ratio is 0.5.

Unlike the twenty-two pairs of autosomes, there is no recombination between the X and most of the Y chromosome.

The gene is connected to X chromosome or some autosome, making it the new Y chromosome. The whole process starts again. This happened with two species of rodents (Ellobius tancrei and E. lutescens).

These flies were derived from compound autosome strains such that heterotypic matings would produce no progeny. The two strains were reared together in common fly cages.

The genome of Drosophila contains 4 pairs of chromosomes: an X/Y pair, and three autosomes labeled 2, 3, and 4. The fourth chromosome is so tiny that it is often ignored. The genome contains about 165 million bases and approximately 14,000 genes.

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total) chromosomes. Two of these are called sex chromosomes, the other 44 are called autosomes.

subtelomeric region of each the X and Y chromosomes, the pseudoautosomal region. These segments are homologous.
Genes in the pseudoautosomal region are not sex-linked.
Recombination frequencies in this region are 20 fold higher than on autosomes.
