Actin

Actin is a globular structural protein that polymerizes in a helical fashion to form an actin filament (or microfilament). These form the cytoskeleton - a three-dimensional network inside an eukaryotic cell.

Acting is the work of an actor/actress, a person in theatre, film, or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing the written text or play.

Actin is a globular protein that polymerize helicaly forming actin filaments (or microfilaments), which like the other two components of the cellular cytoskeleton form a three-dimensional network inside an eukariotic cell.

Many membrane-bound components that regulate actin cytoskeleton dynamics and cell-surface motility associate with PtdIns(4,5)P2-rich lipid rafts.

Actin:
A protein of 42 kD, very abundant in eukaryotic cells (8-14% total cell protein) and one of the major components of the actomyosin motor and the cortical microfilament meshwork.
Full article >>>

Actin Filaments
Monomers of the protein actin polymerize to form long, thin fibers. These are about 8 nm in diameter and, being the thinnest of the cytoskeletal filaments, are also called microfilaments.

Acting Director, Data Acquisition and Curation
GDB also appointed Michael A. Chipperfield as Acting Director of Data Acquisition and Curation, effective October 1. Chipperfield assumed the position held for the past 4 years by A.

actin: a protein filament within the sarcomeres of muscle cells.
action: potential occurs when a neuron is displaying a nerve impulse.
active site: the portion of an enzyme that interacts with the substrate.
Full article >>>

actin - protein which when polymerized forms microfilaments, part of the cytoskeleton and necessary for cytokinesis and other cellular functions.
agglutination - the state of joining or clumping together by adhesion.

actin
[Gk. aktis, a ray]
A globular protein that links into chains, two of which twist helically about each other, forming microfilaments in muscle and other contractile elements in cells.
Full article >>>

actin The protein from which microfilaments are composed; forms the contractile filaments of sarcomeres in muscle cells.
Full article >>>

actin A protein in a muscle fiber that, together with myosin, is responsible for contraction and relaxation.
actinomorphic Regular or radially symmetric flowers.
actinotroch Larval form found in Phoronida.

Actin filaments assist in the movement of nearly all eukaryotic cells.
Microvilli and pseudopodia move by the action of actin filaments.
Actin filaments are important in muscle contraction.

Trans acting factor
A molecule that can diffuse through the cell to act at a distance from where it is made.

The term proposed by Johannsen (1909) for the hereditary constitution of an individual, or of particular nuclei within its cells.
