Catheter, Swan-Ganz: A thin, flexible tube that is inserted through one of the large veins (the inferior or superior vena cava) that return blood to the heart. The catheter is flow-directed.

Swan-Ganz (right heart catheterization) pressure readings will record a marked elevation of left atrial pressure. An ECG usually shows a normal sinus rhythm but may show arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) such as atrial fibrillation.
