Gastrin


Gastrin is a hormone produced by specialized cells in the stomach. When there is food in the stomach, gastrin is secreted into the blood. Gastrin in the bloodstream stimulates cells in the stomach to secrete acid.

Gastrinomas may occur as single tumors or as multiple, small tumors. About one-half to two-thirds of single gastrinomas are malignant tumors that most commonly spread to the liver and lymph nodes near the pancreas and small bowel.

Surgery to remove the cancer.
Surgery to remove the stomach (gastrectomy).
Surgery to cut the nerve that stimulates the pancreas.
Chemotherapy.
