transgenic animals: animals in which one or more genes have been introduced into the nonreproductive cells.
translation: the process by which the genetic code is transferred to an amino acid sequence in a protein.

Animal cells generally will not take up plasmids. Other methods such as microinjection must be used.

A transgenic animal simply has a trangene of interest within its genomic makeup. A cloned animal is developed through nuclear transfer, and typically has a common genetic profile with another animals.

We have generated several lines of transgenic animals carrying either the wildtype human SOST BAC or the VBDel modified BAC.

Experiments with transgenic animals have already given us some key pieces of information about the regulatory mechanisms that determine what sort of photoreceptor a retinal precursor cell will become.
