Transgenic Animals
A transgenic animal is one that carries a foreign gene that has been deliberately inserted into its genome. The foreign gene is constructed using recombinant DNA methodology.

Transgenic mouse
A mouse which carries experimentally introduced DNA in its genome. Linear DNA is injected into a fertilized embryo at the pro-nuclear stage and may be incorporated into the genome. Injected embryos are implanted into a foster mother.

A transgenic animal simply has a trangene of interest within its genomic makeup. A cloned animal is developed through nuclear transfer, and typically has a common genetic profile with another animals.
