Skeletal muscle

Skeletal muscle is further divided into several subtypes:
Type I, slow oxidative, slow twitch, or "red" muscle is dense with capillaries and is rich in mitochondria and myoglobin, giving the muscle tissue its characteristic red color.

Skeletal muscle is made of long fibers whose contraction provides the force of locomotion and other voluntary body movements.

Skeletal muscle is arranged in discrete groups, examples of which include the biceps brachii. It is connected by tendons to processes of the skeleton.

skeletal muscle: see striated muscle.
slime molds (cellular): amoebalike cells that live independently and unite with other cellular slime molds to form a single, large, flat cell with many nuclei.

skeletal muscle Type of muscle tissue found in muscles attached to skeletal parts.
skin The outer integument or covering of an animal body, consisting of the dermis and the epidermis and resting on the subcutaneous tissues.

The skeletal muscles can shiver to produce heat if the body temperature is too low.
Non-shivering thermogenesis involves the decomposition of fat to produce heat.
Sweating cools the body with the use of evaporation.

Preliminary studies have focused on cataloguing the features characteristic of skeletal muscle specific enhancers and promoters. Being able to determine the time and place of gene expression would be a useful step toward understanding its function.

A type of receptor for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, found on skeletal muscle cells and some nerve cells.

myogenesis - differentiation of skeletal muscle.
myxamoeba - in Dictyostelium discoideum, the solitary haploid cell of the vegetative life cycle that lives on bacteria and reproduces by binary fission until the food supply is exhausted.

Lymph are blind-ending in the tissue spaces, gradually joining up to larger and larger vessels with two major lymphatic ducts entering the venous system in the upper thoracic cavity. Lymph is moved by the action of skeletal muscles.
