Northern blot
A technique for detecting specific RNA using a labeled DNA probe. RNA (e.g. total polyA RNA) is separated by electrophoresis in agarose gel and transferred onto a membrane.

Northern blot: A technique for analyzing mixtures of RNA by transfer of size-separated RNA fragments to a synthetic membrane, whereby the presence and rough size of one particular type of RNA (usually an mRNA) can be ascertained.
