MonophyleticIn
phylogenetics, a group is
monophyletic (Greek: of one
stem) if all
organisms in that group are known to have developed from a common ancestral form, and all descendants of that form are included in the group.
Full article >>>Monophyletic taxon : A group composed of a collection of
organisms, including the most recent common ancestor of all those
organisms and all the descendants of that most recent common ancestor. A
monophyletic taxon is also called a
clade.

clade that comprises an ancestral
taxon and all of its descendants, and no other taxa.
Morphology The study of the form of
animals - usually external and often contrasted with
anatomy, the study of the internal form.

Full article >>>monophyletic group A group of
organisms descended from a common ancestor. For example: your immediate
family may be considered such a group, being descended from a common ancestral group (grandparents, etc.).
Full article >>>monophyletic groups Groups that contain an ancestor and all the descendants of that ancestor.
monophyletic origin A group of
organisms that evolved from a single ancestral type.
Full article >>>A
monophyletic group is a
clade, comprising an ancestral form and all of its descendants, and so forming one (and only one)
evolutionary group.

Taxonomists following cladistic ana
lysis place taxa into
clades based on the derived
character states that the taxa share. For example, a wing is a
character.

species must be
monophyletic and share one or more derived
character. There are two meanings to
monophyletic (de Queiroz and Donoghue 1988, Nelson 1989).
Full article >>>Phylogenetic ana
lysis suggests that an ancestor of
plants,
fungi, and
metazoa possessed Fpg and that a
monophyletic group of Nei
sequences exists. On the basis of phylogenetic ana
lysis we
classify one of the
sequences as Fpg and the other as Nei.
