Monocistronic
An mRNA that only encodes a single gene product.
Mosaic
The substitution of portions of a gene with sequences acquired from another site or another organism via genetic recombination.

Monocistronic: A form of gene organization resulting in transcription of an mRNA that contains coding sequence for a single gene or gene product.
mRNA: See messenger RNA.

Separation of viral proteins that were translated from a monocistronic mRNA
Digestion of proteins from foods as a source of amino acids
Conversion of predecessor-proteins (proenzymes , zymogens, prehormones ) into their final structures.

In these cases, although the mRNA is monocistronic, the nuclear transcript was polycistronic.
S1 nuclease mapping of 5' ends of mRNAs produced by trans-splicing, unlike primer extension, does not locate the true 5' end of the RNA.
