Melting

Melting temperature
At the melting temperature half of the oligo will form duplex with complementary oligo at the same concentration. PCR annealing temperature is usually set a few degrees lower than the melting temperature. See also PCR Glossary.

Melting: The dissociation of a duplex nucleic acid molecule into single strands, usually by increasing temperature. See Denaturation.

Tm: The melting point for a double-stranded nucleic acid. Technically, this is defined as the temperature at which 50% of the strands are in double-stranded form and 50% are single-stranded, i.e. midway in the melting curve.

latent heat of melting The amount of heat energy needed to melt a substance, that is, to change it from a solid to a liquid.

For shorter oligomers, end effects, which refer to the initiation of melting from the solvent exposed ends, complicate the application of thermodynamic data collected on long DNAs to the types of molecules used in SBH.

The choice of the length of the primers and their melting temperature depends on a number of considerations.

The mining industry has increased biological leaching techniques for various reasons, including environmental concerns related to smelting, the decline in the quality of ore reserves, and difficulties in processing.

Denaturation of DNA or RNA
Separation of the two strands of a double-stranded DNA or RNA molecule by disrupting the hydrogen bonds that join the complementary bases from the two opposite strands, usually by heat or alkali. (Often called "melting".) ...

values are in the high latitudes and along coasts where large rivers flow into the ocean. Maximum salinity values occur at about 25 north latitude. Surface salinity values are influenced by evaporation, precipitation, river inflow, and melting of ...
