Left atrium


left atrium: the chamber of the human heart that receives oxygen-rich blood via the pulmonary vein.
left ventricle: the chamber of the human heart in which oxygen-rich blood enters through the bicuspid valve that leads into the aorta.

From the left atrium,
Blood flows through the mitral valve (also known as the bicuspid valve) into the left ventricle.
Contraction of the ventricle closes the mitral valve and opens the aortic valve at the entrance to the aorta.
