Gnter Blobel (born 1936), German Nobel Prize-winning biologist who discovered that newly synthesized proteins contain "address tags" which direct them to the proper location within the cell.

Biologists also will know all the basic genetic building blocks, perhaps some 120,000 of them (referred to as "genes", each of which determines a protein, e.g. a biological "part") and all will be available for study and research.

Biologists have learned about the genetics of the visual system in insects by studying mutations that affect eyes in Drosophila. Mutants of the eyeless gene in Drosophila have reduced eye size, with the extent of the reduction depending on the allele.

Biologists have used game theory to understand and predict certain outcomes of evolution, such as the concept of evolutionarily stable strategy introduced by John Maynard Smith in his essay Game Theory and the Evolution of Fighting.

Biologists know little about the genetic mechanisms of speciation. Some think a series of small changes in each subdivision gradually lead to speciation.

For biologists, the most significant forms of radiation are light, heat, and ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation can penetrate cells and create ions in the cell contents. These, in turn, can cause permanent alterations in DNA; that is, mutations.

Austrian biologist, born in 1822 and died in 1884, who laid the foundations for the science of genetics.

Evolutionary biologists theorize that the A allele evolved earliest, followed by O and then B. This chronology accounts for the percentage of people worldwide with each blood type.

During the early 1900s, the study of genetics began in earnest: the link between Mendel's work and that of cell biologists resulted in the chromosomal theory of inheritance; Garrod proposed the link between genes and "inborn errors of metabolism"; ...

Biologists organize and analyze evolutionary relationships through various methods, including phylogenetics, phenetics, and cladistics.

They concluded that DNA is the hereditary material, but not all biologists were convinced.

Zosterophyllophyta An extinct division of early vascular plants characterized by lateral sporangia and commonly spine-like emergences. Believed by evolutionary biologists to be the ancestor of the lycopods.

The gene includes, however, regions preceding and following the coding region (5' UTR and 3' UTR) as well as (in eukaryotes) intervening sequences (introns) between individual coding segments (exons).
There are many discussions between biologists to ...
