Antigen

Antigens can be classified in order of their origins.

Exogenous antigens ...

Antigen-presenting cells
engulf the antigen by endocytosis.
The endosome fuses with a lysosome where the antigen is
degraded into fragments (e.g. short peptides).

antigen
a substance causing the formation of an antibody

Antigen
An antigen is any molecule that is recognized by antibodies. Usually, an antigen is a protein or a polysaccharide, but it can be any type of molecule, even small molecules if coupled to a large carrier (haptens).

The adaptive immune response depends on the creation of suitable peptides from foreign antigens for display on MHC molecules to T lymphocytes.
Full article >>>

They are successful parasites because they dodge the host's immune response by changing the antigenic component of their surfaces.
The surface antigenic properties are due to a single protein, the variant surface glycoprotein (VSG).
Full article >>>

Antigenic variation
A change in the types or amounts of a molecule on the cell surface of a pathogen that alters recognition by the host immune system.
Full article >>>

Antigenic Shift
The influenza virus can mutate through antigenic shift, causing new outbreaks to occur in human populations.

Bacterial Conjugation ...
Full article >>>

Antigen. Any foreign substance, such as a virus, bacterium, or protein, that elicits an immune response by stimulating the production of antibodies. (See Antigenic determinant, antigenic switching.) ...
Full article >>>

antigens: the immune-stimulating polysaccharides on the surface of cells.
aorta: the major artery of the human circulatory system that receives blood from the left ventricle.
Full article >>>

Antigens substances on the surfaces "foreign" cells that our immune systems use to distinguish "me" from a foreign invader
(from "antibody generating"; anti = against opposite; gen = bear produce) ...
Full article >>>

Antigen
: Any macromolecule that triggers an immune response.
Antigenicity
depends on the ability of the peptide fragments to be presented by the
MHC
molecules.

antigen detection
activation of helper T cells
antibody production by B cells
Each stage is directed by a specific cell type.

Antigenic variation: Mechanism to ensure rapid sequence variation of the gene(s) encoding homologues of an individual protein antigen; usually involving multiple, related gene copies.
Full article >>>

antigen
(an-teh-jen) [Gk. anti, against + genos, origin, descent]
A foreign macromolecule that does not belong to the host organism and that elicits an immune response.
Full article >>>

antigen - a molecule which reacts with preformed antibody at the specific receptors on T and B cells. Antigens are the ligands that react with the products of an immune response ...
Full article >>>

antigen challenge Dose or inoculation with an antigen given to an animal some time after primary immunization with that antigen has been achieved.

Rh (or the D antigen) is inherited on one locus (on the short arm of the first chromosome, 1p36.2-p34) with two alleles, of which Rh+ is dominant and Rh- recessive. The gene codes for a polypeptide on the red cell membrane.
Full article >>>

histocompatibility antigens - cell surface glycoproteins that differ from individual to individual; their recognition as foreign by a host organism is responsible for rejection of grafted foreign tissue.
Full article >>>

An immunoglobulin protein produced by B- lymphocytes of the immune system that binds to a specific antigen molecule. (See monoclonal antibodies, polyclonal antibodies.) Anticodon.
Full article >>>

poly many polyclonal antibodies A heterogeneous pool of antibodies produced in an animal by a number of different B lymphocytes in response to an antigen. Different antibodies in the pool recognize different epitopes of the antigen.

In 1032 employees (446 men and 586 women; 22 to 66 years old) of a hospital in southern Italy, we investigated the association between PAI-1 4G/5G and the ACE I/D gene variants and plasma PAI-1 antigen levels.

Antigen-presenting cell surface proteins have been the focus of investigation into possible genetic susceptibility to this disease. It was discovered previously that certain HLA-DP1 alleles correlated with the development of CBD.
Full article >>>

EPITOPE - As related to protein antigens, B-cell epitopes consist of the amino acid residues of a protein molecule which interact directly through noncovalent bonds with the amino acid residues of a particular antibody molecule (complementarity ...
Full article >>>

A blood protein that is produced in response to and counteracts an antigen. Antibodies are produced in response to disease and help the body fight against the particular disease. In this way, antibodies help the body develop an immunity to disease.
Full article >>>

membrane proteins (receptors, membrane transport, antigens)
